Blazon: På rød bunn en gull ring
In English: Gules an annulet or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 16 June 1967 after a drawing by Hallvard
Trætteberg. [c2j87]
After Ringerike was formed in 1964 by joining of the city of Hønefoss and the
municipalities of Norderhov, Hole, Tyristrand, Ådal and of Brekkebygda/Havigskogen
part of the Krødsherrad municipality. None had any symbols previously except for
Hønefoss , that got its arms in 15 March 1902 by the royal resolution. However,
these were "entirely non-heraldic" by the 1960's concepts, and included no
elements that were interesting for the new community. Hønefoss arms are shown in
colour here,
however, [c2j87] shows it in b/w drawing with a
mural crown above the shield.

here.
The 1902 design was made by Ivar Throndsen, a coin engraver. After the design
went out of use in 1964, the local bank - Hønefoss sparebank, took it for its
own and used it, like in this
1976 commemorative medal. In my
attempt of blazoning it from the drawing (I found no Norwegian formal blazon),
it may be something of the sort: per bend sinister, gules lightning flashes
argent radiating from a cog-wheel sable and azure a waterfall argent with
tumbling logs proper over rocks. (although colouring differs in various
representations, this is from description in [c2j87])
There was no flag approved matching that arms.
The Ringerike design is canting for ring. The colours were chosen to symbolize
royal connection as well as that the area, even that small, was considered a
separate kingdom at one time.
