The "Matrozeninstituut voor de Koopvaardij" (Sailors' Institute for the Merchant Marine) owned in days past a ship, which was moored at the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam. That ship was allowed to fly the flag of the KNRV (Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeil- & Roeivereeniging) too. The Pollux was maintained by that association.
At the same time the Pollux flew also an orange flag with a blue hoisttriangle, charged with a daisy. An ex-pupil donated a replica recently to the Pollux. The square rigged ship has been in IJmuiden since 15 years.
The origin of that flag is unknown. It is most likely connected with Princess Margriet ("margriet" = daisy), which might explain the daisy and the orange color. Margriet became the godchild of the merchant marine during World War II.
