Steamboat Co Akkermans) was the successor of the Nederlandsche Stoomboot
Reederij. This last co originates from 1886 and had passenger services between
Rotterdam and Mannheim. In 1947 the NSR merged with Akkermans Stoomboot Reederij
to form Nederlandsche Stoomboot Reederij Akkermans. In the mid-fifties the
passenger services with the magnificent passenger vessels on the Rhine ended,
beaten by strong competition of train and road traffic.
