Some essential facts about this Dutch shipping company. Founded in 1920
by collective action of Van Driel, Schroers, and Keulse Vaart totalling
75 tugs and 200 towed barges to which was added the fleet of Drughorn Ltd,
London. Van Driel who also owned Drughorn pulled out in 1930.
In 1968 NRV and Vulcaan merged to form EWT taken over by Veerhaven (then
Thyssen-Krupp) in 1974.
‘Flaggen auf dem Rhein’ (1952 ed.) shows a house flag which is certainly
more elaborate than the very simple one presented yesterday, year of introduction
unknown. Diagonally divided blue (hoist, fly) and white (top, bottom),
a large part of the centre taken up by a white blue-rimmed disk in which
appear eight blue wavy lines surmounted by, and partially indented by,
vertically placed initials “NRV” in blue. Fimbriation occurs
where the disk would have touched the blue triangles and also between the
letter “V” and the wavy lines.
