Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 9.403; area: 12,77 km². Settlements: Nieuw-Lekkerland (seat), Kinderdijk.
Nieuw-Lekkerland is "new land of the Lek river", it was named "new" c. 1300, to distinguish it from "Oud Leckerland", now Lekkerkerk, in Nederlek municipality. The village of Kinderdijk is famous for its 19 windmills
