Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 17.837; area: 19,35 km². Settlements: Boven-Hardinxveld, Giessendam/Neder-Hardinxveld.
In 1957 the two villages of Hardinxveld and Giessendam merged to form the new municipality of Hardinxveld-Giessendam.
