Heinkenszand former municipality
The status of this flag is uncertain. It was designed by Ir. A.J. Beenhakker,
and published by Anton Jansen in "Vlaggen", #71, 1991 - courtesy of Mr.
Hans van Heijningen.
Heinkenszand: flagdescription: Diagonally divided from bottom hoist
to top fly of white and green, with on white a red cockerel.
Based on the oldest known village arms, as it appears f.i. in the "Kroniek
van Smallegange" (1696): in gold a red cockerel on a green mountain.
According to Ir. Beenhakker this Coat of Arms is more authentic than the one granted
by the Hoge Raad van Adel on 31 Jul 1817: a bird in natural colors.
Heinkenszand was a municipality in Zeeland province with 2.200 inhabitants,
with the settlements Heinkenszand (seat), 't Oudeland, Ouwelandpolder and
Rietschbosschen - and a handbow-shooting club. In 1970 the municipality
of Heinkenszand merged with several others to form the new municipality
of Borsele, on the former island of Zuid-Beveland.
