No Flag

I was informed there is no municipal flag by the council.

Coat of Arms

image from Wikimedia Commons

The coat of arms was designed by José García Ruiz, originally from Las Pilas in Morelos Municipality. It was adopted during the term of 1992-1995 under Municipal President Edilberto Solís Saldívar. The shield is divided into five sections. The uppermost section depicts two eagles for the Indian and Spanish civilizations. A mining winch (malacate) references the discovery of minerals, and a cob of corn is displayed at the top for agriculture. The flourishing of a new culture is represented by the branches. Below: to the upper-left is an image of Martín de Zavala de Sepúlveda in front of the mountainous (Buffa and Silla hills) and forest scenery, who was born here and went on to found the Kingdom of Nuevo León and Monterrey, its capital.

The upper-right depicts the sea and a hand holding the Eucharist, apparently referencing the origin of the municipal name: people who came from the sea and Eucharist bread. The lower-left depicts the tower of the local San Juan Bautista church, recognizing the faith, and an agave plant as a symbol of the territory/references the fact it grows here. To the lower-right, a Spanish helmet, hammer, and needle; remembering its establishment by the Spanish, dividing the lower four sections is a sword recognizing their conflicts. At the very bottom a ribbon reads "PANUCO, ZAC. 1548", the year it was founded by the Spanish.
