The coat of arms of Jerez was created by petition from the directors of the Chamber of Commerce in 1959, then a drawing was given back by Jesús Félix Valdes to them on pasteboard. During the time of Municipal President Fernando Robles (1968-1971), he charged Trustee Juan de Santiago of the Municipal Council with creating a municipal coat of arms. However, they realized that they had the drawing by Jesús, and so they asked the chamber and author if they could have permission to use it. Since 2014, after one of his children asked for 2 million pesos from the council, it has stopped being used in official documents. Below the shield is a ribbon that reads "TEMPUS FUGIT LABOREMUS"; [Time is running out, we shall work]. Above the shield over a scroll, bearing its title "VILLA DE XEREZ"; above Our Lady of Solitude; the scroll is topped by a cross, remembering the faith and its patron saint. The shield is divided diagonally into two; black and blue, with a spiked yellow band running across. In the black, an Indian with a bow and arrow; on the blue, a Spaniard with a sword, remembering the colonization and their conflicts.
