The coat of arms was adopted in 1987 under Municipal President Félix Honorio, who submitted a call for submissions from the people. The design chosen was the one by Socorro Chairez Martínez. The shield is placed on a blue border with sharp edges. In the border of the shield, it reads the motto "CONCIENCIA DE ORIGEN - FORTALEZA DE PRINCIPIOS" [Consciousness of Origin - Strength of Principles] and "JUAN ALDAMA". The shield is divided into three sections. The upper triangle depicts an olive branch for peace, open book for education, two pea pods for sustenance, and a wave remembering the importance of water. The lower-left depicts the Church of Saint John the Baptist. To the lower-right, an image of a tractor, ploughed fields, hilly terrain, corn plants, and a head of cattle; these remember the agricultural and cattle-raising industries.
