The coat of arms of Xicoténcatl was adopted through a contest held in 1967 by petition of Municipal President Eugenio Aguilar Rodríguez, with the winning result being designed by Martín Martínez Martínez. The border of the coat of arms has the same form as the coat of arms of the State. It is divided into three horizontal sections. At the top is the Guayalejo River and the effigy of José Escandón; in the second a cow, grass, corn cob, and corn plants for cattle-raising and agriculture; and in the third, industry is represented by the silhouette of the Aarón Sáenz Garza sugar mill. Older descriptions mention a star, sketch simulating the city, and the date of foundation of the city above; it is unclear when this change occurred.
