The council submitted a call for submissions open to the public, under Municipal President Marco Antonio Guerra Salinas in 1986. Notably, the teachers and students of the Secondary School "Juana de Asbaje y RamÃrez" participated. The design by Prof. Armando Heredia SolÃs was approved as the Municipal Coat of Arms. The border of the shield is scrolled, having to its upper-left a lit torch for liberty. The inner area depicts two hills, the sky, a ploughed field, and tractor; and at the very front two cattle remembering the cattle-raising industry, a cogwheel for the technology of the fields, corn plant for agriculture, and text reading V. de Méndez, Tam.
