The culture director did not inform me on the history of the municipal coat of arms. It does appear to have been created after 2012, however. The coat of arms is a shield, with scrolled edges at the top-right and top-left. At the top is an image of the Franciscan symbol, a cross and two arms over a cloud, one clothed and the other bare. To its sides are leaves. Under the shield, a ribbon reads "Pame Xi'iui", indicating the Pame people as the natives of the land. At the top of the border is its name, Santa Catarina. At the bottom is 1846, probably indicating the re-establishment of the 1824 Constitution. The sides of the border have a staff on each side. The inner area is divided into four sections. The upper-left section depicts the local Santa María Acapulco church with its patron saint in front, and the year 1675 in the upper-right corner probably indicating its foundation. The upper-right section depicts four Pame indigenous women, people of the land, and two pots as symbols of their artisanry and a potted plant. The lower-left section depicts a ploughed field for agriculture. The lower-right section depicts an old church and the year 1896, probably for the time the photo was taken. In front of it, two instruments: a ukulele and violin for culture, as well as a rock.
