The coat of arms of Rioverde was adopted in 1968, being painted and designed by the writer María de Jesús Ramírez D'Abaddie. She designed it at the petition of the priest Miguel Domínguez Mejía, in preparation for the festivities of the 350th anniversary of the Municipality. It is found in the Municipal Regulation on Police and Government, in Article 23 of Chapter III. The shield has the same frame as the coat of arms of the State, having in its inner area a rectangle divided into three sections: the bottom section has the shape of an arrow facing inwards. The upper-left section depicts the Patron Saint of the Municipality, Santa Catarina de Alejandría, carrying a leaf for the arts and cogwheel for industry. The upper-right section depicts the Franciscan symbol (two hands crossed together over a cloud, one bare and the other clothed; a cross is depicted above), recognizing the Franciscans as its founders. The lower section depicts the mountains as a background to (left) a ploughed field with a sugarcane mill in its background; and (right) an orchard of orange trees, primary industry at the time of its foundation. The Río Verde crosses through this land, from which the Municipality took its name.
