Flag

The flag is a horizontal triband of green, maroon, and yellow, from top to bottom. Green is for the mountains and the twenty summits of the sacred and mythical hill "Cempaltépetl" where Mother Earth is worshiped. Maroon is for coffee plant. Yellow is for fertility and productivity. Horizontal disposition is for equality and reciprocity. In the middle, covering all three stripes, is the Mixe people emblem whose main figure is a representation of legendary Mixe king Konkëy (Gook King). The flag was designed by the "Centro de Educación Musical y Desarrollo de la Cultura Indígena." (Center of Musical Education and Indigenous Cultural Development) and inaugurated in August 1991.
Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, summarized form Bandera mixe, 27 July 2022

There is no a standard in the Mixe emblem, some features Konkey in black and white, brown or grey. Colors of mountains and snake vary as well. The text above the mountains also used to be represented in several ways, always resembling the sun-rays; even some texts reads something like “KAMAABYDE”, others do not have any text at all. The size of emblem in the flag is also variable.
