No Flag

The Municipal Chronicler informed me the municipality does not have a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

from Wikimedia Commons

The coat of arms was designed by Carlos Diaz Aguirre in 1952. Partial description, from the Municipal Chronicler.

It is divided into sections, representing each one of them one of the four principal eras which we know the place that the city occupies has had. The dexter canton in chief (upper-left section) signifies the aduar [poor housing settlement] of the Huamar [sic; Huachichil] Chichimeca Indians, situated close to one of the watering holes of blue water that the Spanish friars and conquistadors found in this place...

...In this section [upper-right] there is a cart that signifies that here was a place of rest for the carters that transited through the trail on the stop in the middle of the [Ciudad de] Mexico - Zacatecas trail. In the background the Tepeaca Hill.

The lower-left section depicts the unfinished towers of the San Felipe Apóstol church, as the church towers remained unfinished for a long time. The lower-right section depicts a man realizing works of pottery, one of the principal economic activities of the place. The border reads "SAN FELIPE TORRES MOCHAS GTO." (from the top to the sides then bottom). Above the shield is a tower, signifying the local name of "Torres Mochas" [cut towers]. The sides of the shield depict a friar and Indian, signifying the fusion of races. Under them is a pedestal, having a ribbon that reads "21 DE ENERO DE 1562", the date of its foundation.
