The council informed me the idea of their coat of arms was proposed by Governor of the State José Aguilar y Maya to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in 1953. However, the design was not created until 1955, when the Council under Municipal President Ángel León Patiño (1955-1956) concluded with its creation; it was designed by the artist from Tarimoro named Manuel "Meme" Lara, also the designer of the Tarimoro coat of arms at this time. Description according to the Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations:
In the upper part, under a blue sky, represented are the hills of Culiacán, crowned by a feather-hat of clouds, and the Mocha hill, similarly a small hill with a sepulchral yácata [rounded pyramid]; at its foot a smoky brazier is found drawn and a small idol [stone mask], as allusion to the primitive inhabitants. On the slopes of the hills, you can see the valley on the banks of the Laja River, the hamlet and the tower of its Franciscan temple. In the lower-right part, chimneys of factories are observed and the famous iron bridge over the Laja River, similarly a fighting cock that represents the tradition of the place, famous for its breeds of fine roosters. In the lower-left part, two hands holding a chain, and as a background a tricolor flag of three stars, as a reference to the decided support of the populators of the place in the movement of the Independence [it should be noted this version appears to be fictional (see page)]. In the extreme left and right sides of the shield, placed are the most representative agricultural products of the region, like corn, tomato, garlic, and wheat. As another element of the shield the legend Yahhiu Degnó is found inscribed [above the central device] which in Spanish signifies "Place of Soap Plants".Daniel Rentería, 2 July 2025
