The council informed me they have a municipal flag, but its date of adoption is unknown. It is a gonfalon that has a rounded bottom edge, having in the center the coat of arms and under it the name, ATARJEA.

The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted on 31 December 1999, being designed by Norma Hilda Reséndiz Flores, being adopted through a call for submissions from the Municipal Council under Municipal President Rigoberto González León (1998-2000), launched on 31 March 1999. To the sides of the shield are columns, and above the shield is a ribbon reading 1539 over an oval in the center, the year of its foundation. Also above is the motto "TIERRA LEJANA TIERRA FRUCTIFERA" [Far Land, Fruitful Land]. The shield has a small triangle at the bottom that reads ATARJEA. It is divided into four sections. The upper-left section depicts the Sierra Gorda Mountains and Atarjea arroyo by them. The upper-right section depicts the Jesus and Mary church and a pyramid as a representation of the pyramid foundations of some houses; also the sun. The lower-left section depicts some ears of wheat and a plant for agriculture. The lower-right section depicts a minecart and mine entrance with a chimney in front of it, signifying the mining industry.
