No Flag

It appears Tapachula does not use a municipal flag.

The coat of arms of Tapachula was adopted in 1984, with the winners announced on 12 September, being designed by Esgard José Cabrera Arriaga. It was adopted through a call for submissions from the Municipal Council under Joaquín del Pino Trujillo (1983-1985). Description as commonly found online:

The inscription [found in a ribbon above the shield]: Tapachula from the Nahoa “Tlapachol-atl”, swampy or flooded land.

[The following elements are depicted in a shield.]
The volcano [taking up the background, brown]: Protection and the head of the Municipality.

The state of Chiapas [map in the center, green]: The pride of being Chiapaneco.

The protection of the Municipality [in yellow, centered and larger on the map of the state]: The greatness of our Municipality and its vision towards the future.

The tributary of the river [small triangle at the bottom]: Coatán, from the Nahoa “Coatl-Tan”, a place with abundant snakes.

Corn, cocoa and coffee [the first two at the top over a sky; the third in the lower-left]: Represent the producing force of our Municipality.

The calabash [jícara] or huacal tree [lower-right]: The origin of the nickname of the people of Tapachula: “Huacaleros.”

The laurel branches and wreath [to the sides]: Homage to the heroes.

The chains of roses: The proclamation of the independence of Tapachula and Soconusco from the Spanish Crown and the Captaincy General of Guatemala by Don Bartolomé de Aparicio, on 23 October 1821 [the year 1821 is read under the branches].

Wreath: An open wreath, woven from flowers, herbs, or branches.
