The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted in the term under Municipal President Tomás B. López González. It was designed by Alejandro Reyes García, resident of the municipality. It was designed, with the old community before the creation of the hydroelectric dam also kept in mind. Above the shield is a crown, in accordance with the state's coat of arms and its colonial history. The shield is divided into four sections, but not divided by lines. The upper-left section depicts an agave plant with the year "1976" under it, indicating when Osumacinta's settlers were moved to the new settlement. The settlers of old Osumacinta used agave for its fibers; this was a principal part of its economy. The upper-right section depicts the modernity of the new Osumacinta, with an electric tower depicted in front of the mountains; under it is the year 1980, indicating the foundation of the Chicoasén Dam. The lower-left section depicts the Grijalva River with a bridge over it, an indication of the settlers that used it for activities such as cleaning, fishing, etc. Finally, the lower-right section depicts the Chicoasén Dam, with its fence, rocks, and water beside it, an indicator of the new era for the municipality.
