The council informed me their coat of arms was adopted in 2000; that year, on 13 February, a contest was held after a call of submissions was given by the Municipal Council. The designs by Mario López Pérez (with the ribbon under the shield) and Germán Pérez Hernández became recognized as the Municipal Coats of Arms, after both were recognized as the winners.
The coat of arms by Mario López Pérez depicts branches to its sides tied together by a ribbon, signifying peace/growth. Under the shield is a ribbon reading "IXTAPA CHIAPAS". Over the shield is a dove alluding to the doves that slept in the area. The shield has an inner section divided into three colors (blue, green, orange), depicting in its upper-left the "La Pila" construction from the 16th century, used for the supplying of water; found in its central plaza. The upper-right depicts the Las Salinas well. At the top, the mountainous geography is depicted in blue. The "La Ceiba" tree from the principal plaza is depicted at the bottom; it died in the year 2000.
The coat of arms by Germán Pérez Hernández was modified in 2011, adding the Our Lady of the Assumption church to the lower-left. To the sides of the shield are branches signifying peace. Above the shield is a ribbon reading "Ixtapa Chiapas", over it being a dove alluding to the doves that slept in the area. The shield has an inner section, depicting in its upper-left the "La Pila" construction from the 16th century, used for the supplying of water; found in its central plaza. The upper-right depicts the Las Salinas well. Finally, the "La Ceiba" tree from the principal plaza is depicted; it died in the year 2000.
