Designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano and approved 18 October 1989 by the council. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
Shield imposed in four sections over Spanish field, its blazons are: The effigy of a farmworker and the year 1954 in which it expropriated the Bavicora [million acre ranch owned by William Randolph Hearst; later split up] in favor of the farmworkers of the region, a potato, a head [of corn], and a livestock, these represent Agriculture and Cattle-raising, over these 3 blazons goes a cloud which represents hope that it rains for the progress of Agriculture and Cattle-raising, a goose in complete flight represents the fauna (there are thousands of geese which arrive to this Municipality originating from Canada). The silvicultural resources are represented by a pine tree, the same of which is flanked by two wolves carrying prey, which signify the tenacity that is held by the inhabitants of this Municipality in all that they do. The year 1928 corresponds to the year in which they founded Rancho Nuevo, this name appears in the ribbon which crowns the shield, two branches of alligator juniper in the form of a wreath surround the shield.
Note that there is also a cross in the center for Christianity. At the top of the bordure reads "GOMEZ FARIAS CHIHUAHUA", the code 08 to the left for the state and 025 to the right for the municipality;
used mainly by INEGI for statistical purposes. A different symbol is also placed to the sides of the bordure, shades with benches for family tourism.
