Background

Lilongwe is the capital city of Malawi. Originally a fishing village, it was founded in 1906 and was officially recognised as a town in 1947.  Due to its location in the centre of the country, it replaced Blantyre as the capital of the country in 1975.

Description of the flag

The municipal flag of Lilongwe has a white background, in the centre of which are the municipal coat of arms.  There is also a variant in which the inscription "Lilongwe City Council" appears under the arms.
