According to photographies of the 1 May 2008 meeting shown on
the party’s Flickr
album, the flag of MSM is horizontally divided orange-white-orange, the
white stripe being wider, with the party’s emblem in the middle. The
emblem of the MSM is made of the party’s acronym and a sixteen-ray
sun, all orange.

album, a party’s flag, hanging on the buildings lining the
street, is similar but with a thick orange border all around the flag.

album there is also a white square flag with the party’s acronym
surmonting the sun charged with the number 7, most probably refering to
constituency #7.

The Militant Socialist Movement (in French, Mouvement Socialiste Militant, MSM) was founded in May 1983 by Sir Aneerood Jugnauth (b. 1930). A breakaway from the ruling Mauritian Militant Movement, the MSM quickly incorporated the Mauritian Socialist Party (in French, Parti Socialiste Militant, PSM), founded in the late 1970s as a breakaway from the Mauritian Labour Party. In 1983, the MSM won the elections. The MSM, allied with the MLP, won the 1987 elections, and, again, the 1991 elections, then realigned with the MMM. The MMM-MSM coalition won the 2000 elections but was defeated in 2005 by the Social Alliance (in French, Alliance Sociale) set up by the MLP.
Sir Aneerood Jugnauth served as Prime Minister from 1982 to 1995 and from 2000 to 2003. In 2003, he was elected President of the Republic and handled the direction of the MSM to his son Pravind Jugnauth. He is usually credited the "Mauritius miracle" of the 1980s because of its liberal policy, but also increased social and interethnic tension.
