The World Macedonian Congress is a non-government organization, founded on 8 August 1993, whose main task is to unite all Macedonians from all parts of North Macedonia and from other countries in the world.

The World Macedonian Congress adopted its flag and coat of arms in 1998. The flag is based on the former "Sun of Vergina" North Macedonia national flag or a proposal designed in 1992.
According to the Statutes of the OMO Ilinden - PIRIN (party of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria), the blue object in the middle of the Sun of Vergina is an edelweiss, a flower that grows in the Pirin mountain, today in Bulgaria.
