The status of the Customs Administration is prescribed by Article 3 of the Law on Customs Administration, adopted in 2004 and published in the Macedonian official gazette 46/04, as follows.
(1) The Customs Administration is a state administration authority within the Ministry of Finance with a status of a legal person.
(2) The Customs Administration carries out its powers throughout the entire territory of the Republic of North Macedonia. The Customs Administration as a legal entity is located in Skopje.

The flag of the Customs Administration, officially adopted on 30 December 2004, is in proportions 1:2, white with the Customs Administration emblem in the middle.
The emblem of the Customs Administration is prescribed by Article 4 of the Law on Customs Administration, as follows.
(1) The symbol of the Customs Administration is a circle with two insignia [writings] Republic of Macedonia Customs Administration [in black, capital Cyrillic letters] on the top, and CARINA [in black, capital Cyrillic letters]- CUSTOMS [in black, capital Latin letters] on the bottom. The symbol consists of a golden-coloured frame with a red median that symbolises the border crossing points, and above and below the median are three golden-coloured cords that symbolise the passage of people and goods through the customs line.
(2) The Minister of Finance, on proposal by the Director, shall prescribe the form, contents and manner of use of the symbol referred to in paragraph (1) of this Article.
The flag is not mentioned in the Law on Customs Administration.
