Salakas (Zarasai District) - on a white field a red pale
(white-red-white 1-2-1 approximately) with a golden armed silver
falcon sitting on three golden ashlars one over two and holding
in its claws a golden Latin cross. Flag proportions 5:6, free
edges bordered with golden rope, finial is a silver arrow head
with golden bands. The falcon is canting: the opposingly red name
of the town would be "sakalas", meaning
"falcon" in Lithuanian. The ashlars and cross remind of
the key event in the life of the Salakas community in 1906-1911:
the local priest Antanas Kryzanauskas encouraged the
parish to build a new church. People unanimously brought a
lot of stones with lorries, made ashlars and built the original
church in less than 6 years.
