Laukuva (Silale District) - on a yellow field the arms of
Laukuva: a dressed horse. Flag proportions 5:6, free edges
bordered with narrow red stripe, fringe is silver, finial is a
golden knob with two rings and golden bands. The arms reflects
the local legend about the former Treigiai castle, from which the
town originates: once numerous enemies besieged the
castle. Defenders dressed a scarcely three-year-old horse,
hung jingles on it, and during the night time released it
into the enemies' camp. The scared horse started raging. The
enemies saw and heard a mysterious scary creature and ran in
panic, considering it being a demon. Proud of their smart set-up,
the inhabitants of castle called themselves "treigiai"
("three-years-horses").
