Girkalnis (Raseiniai District) - on silver field with red
bordure on free edges upon green hill attacking black wolf
looking backwards to red oval with silver cross. Flag
proportions 10:11, finial is silver tip, staff is dark
grey. The charge reflects the local folk tale about town and
church names: the local lord Jurgis (George) hunted on the
woodland hill once. He was attacked by wolves, and when he
prayed for aid and promised building a church right
there, the wolves ran away. So the lord built a church in on that
hill ("girkalnis" means "wood hill") and
dedicated the church to his patron St. George.
