free edges the red horse. Flag proportions 10:11, finial is
silver tip, staff is dark grey. The charge symbolizes horse
breeding: during the times of Grand Duchy of Lithuania here
was the major centre of state horsebreading. The charge
also reflects the local folk tale about the origin of town name:
a local Jewish tradesman had an old horse, which rattled
loudly, so people heard it from far and said "tradesman
rattles hither"; "rattles" is
"kriokia" in Lithuanian.
