Jaffna is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. With a
population of 88,000 in 2012, Jaffna is Sri Lanka's 12th most populous city of
Sri Lanka. Jaffna Municipal Council is the local authority for the city of
Jaffna. JMC is responsible for providing a variety of local public services
including roads, sanitation, drains, housing, libraries, public parks and
recreational facilities. It was established in January 1949 as a successor to
Jaffna Urban Council.
The flag of Jaffna municipal council is yellow with
the emblem of the municipal council maroon on yellow, and green stripe of 1/8 of
the flag at the hoist.
