Cheondoism

Cheondogyo (천도교 / 天道教), usually anglicized as Cheondoism, is a Korean religion founded in 1905, based on the 19th Century Donghak (Eastern Learning) Neo-Confucian movement, but incorporates elements of Buddhism, Taoism and Korean Shamanism. It had 1.13 million followers in South Korea as of 2005, and 2.8 million in North Korea as of 2000.

The Cheondoist flag (in South Korea at least), known as the Geungulgi (궁을기 / 弓乙旗), is a white-red vertical bicolor, featuring the Cheondoist emblem, known as the Geunguljang (궁을장 / 弓乙章), counterchanged. The dot at the centre represents the human mind (마음, literally 'heart'); the two crescents represent the human body (몸); and the ring represents the human character (성품).

Daejongism

Daejonggyo (대종교 / 大倧敎), usually anglicized as Daejongism, is a religion in South Korea, founded in 1909 as a revival of Korean Shamanism.

According to the official Deajonggyo website (http://www.daejonggyo.or.kr/main/?skin=comp_flag.htm, in Korean), Daejongism originally used a flag [presumably white] with a blue disc bearing the hanja (Chinese character) "神" (God) in white.

The current Daejongist flag, known as the Cheonsingyogi (천신교기 / 天神敎旗 "Heavenly God Religion Flag"), is white with a blue disc bearing a yellow square, in turn bearing a red equilateral triangle. The symbol represents philosophically Heaven-Earth-Humans, and theologically God-Humans-Materials.

This flag was adopted on January 16 1926, but due to Japanese persecutions against the Korean independence movement (to which Daejongism belonged) it was not actually used until December 26 1935.

Suungyo (수운교 / 水雲敎), usually anglicized as Suunism, is a religion in South Korea, founded by a schism from Cheondoism in 1923.

The Suunist flag, known as the Geungulgi (궁을기 / 弓乙旗), is yellow with the Suunist emblem, known as the Geunguljang (궁을장 / 弓乙章), in black at the centre. The two crescents represent the human body (몸), and the ring represents the human character (성품).
