On the CBC 7 pm news on 05 June 2007 I got a brief, but full view, of
a flag being waved from a van or pick-up. The flag has three equal horizontal
stripes of red, green and white, and two narrow black stripes - one
between red and green and the other between green and white. The story
was about Kenyan police raids in the slums of certain towns. The flag may be that of the outlawed Kenyan ethno-sect Mungiki operating in
Nairobi and other towns. The sect first appeared in the 1980s and was
banned in 2002. The Minguki wear dreadlocks and pray towards Mount Kenya.
They are alleged to be hired killers and to extort money from
businesses and especially private bus drivers. Recently several decapitations
have been attributed to them.
