He served under Toyotomi Hideyoshi and became the lord of Takahama Castle in Wakasa Province in 1585 and Nagahama Castle in Omi Province in the same year. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he was a member of the Eastern force and was awarded 200,000 goku by Tokugawa Ieyasu as the lord of Kochi Castle in Tosa Province.
The war banner was black, white and black horizontal three stripes with a white oak leaves in a circle in the upper stripe.
It is said that the family emblem was established in the hope that the branch of the oak tree, which was used by the ancestors as a war ornament during battles, would remain after a fierce battle with only three leaves remaining, just like the leaves.
