A feudal lord in the early Edo period, he served Tokugawa Ieyasu and became a retainer of Hidetada. In 1617, he succeeded to his father's estate and became a feudal lord of Kozuke Province. He served as a lieutenant in the shogunate until 1634, and became the core of the shogunate cabinet. The war banner has white background with Sakaiâ€™s Kamon family emblem of wood sorrelwith sword blades in black topped with a red Maneki small streaming flag. The wood sorrel with sword blades emblem, one of the five major emblems, is a family emblem favored by warlords that combines the wood sorrel with a sword.

The third son of Sakakibara Yasumasa, he succeeded his father's death and became the second feudal lord of 100,000 goku in Tatebayashi. His war banner has a red background with a white nine stars family emblem. The personal standard is a square banner with the same design and a square banner with a white circle on a red background.
