Introduced in Jan 2001.
The flag of meteorological observation vessel attached to Japan Meteorological Agency is a white flag with a logo mark that is composed of blue and white in the center.
The center sphere represents the earth enveloped in the atmosphere, and it depicts the flow of the atmosphere circling the earth on the surface.
As a whole ,the logo mark expresses the natural phenomenon of the earth such as budding, waves of the sea.
Furthermore, this logo marks the initials "J", "M", "A (a)" of "Japan Meteorological Agency" in the pattern, and the crescent shaped pattern on the right side of the logo and a sphere in the center represent "J" and "a (A)" and a wave motion on the surface of the earth represents ”M”.

I saw that the FOTW website has weather forecast flags for Japan. Looks like Japan also has a tsunami flag since 2020.
