The name Hojo was given in honor of the Hojo clan, which once served as regent of the Kamakura Shogunate, and there is no blood relationship between the two, but they are believed to be members of the Ise clan, a shogunate vassal of the Muromachi Shogunate. In 1493, he took possession of the whole of Izu, becoming a feudal lord. In 1606, he destroyed the Miura clan, took over Sagami Province, and expanded into Musashi Province, laying the foundation for five generations of the Go-Hojo family. The war streaming flag has red background with gold three serpent scales of a snake. It is said to be named after the scales dropped by a serpent that appeared when Tokimasa of the Hojo clan prayed to Enoshima Benzaiten.
