The city flag was adopted on Sep 1st 1971 by city Notice No 140.
The white flag is charged with the black city emblem and
red Sakurajima island.
The flag proportions are 2:3.
The city emblem is composed of stylized kanji 市 SHI = city
and former Satuma Clan lord the Shimazus family crest of
cross in a circle. The arrows facing in four directions indicate a developing city
in all directions.
