The city emblem was adopted on Mar 31st 2006 by Notice No 2 and the flag was adopted on Nov 1st 2006 by Instruction No 78. The white flag has a blue and a red two color city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized M of Minamishimabara. The emblem depicts blue sea, beautiful mountains and the vigorous residents. It represents a reconciliation and a solidarity of the new city and a wish for a development to the future. The flag proportion is 7: 10. The height of the emblem is 3/5 height of the flag.
