The city emblem was changed on Mar 31st 2005. The maroon flag charged with
the white former city emblem is not used any more. The new city emblem is a
stylized hiragana し Sho of Shoubara. The light green color stands for a
freshness of the nature and a spirit of challenge and the bright yellow color
for the culture, a warmth and a tenderness of the people. It represents an image
of the city which grows its culture , nature and peoples love at the stage of a
village forest of Chugoku Mountains and makes a leap forward to the future. The
new white flag has the two color city emblem in the center.
