Echizen was created on 1 October 2005 with the merger of the city of Takefu and the town of Imadate.
The flag of the city of Echizen is white with mark.

The city emblem was adopted on Oct 1st 2005 by Notice No1 but thre is no flag
law. The white flag has its city three color emblem in the center.
The city emblem is stylized E of Echizen and the green line stands for nature,
orange line for warmth and blue line for expansivity. As a whole it represents
a comfortable lifestye city, traditional culture city and culture interchanging
hub city.

The flag of the former city of Takefu. The city is now, from 2005, part of the city of Echizen.
