The town emblem was adopted on Jul 1st 1961 by Notice No 19
but there is no flag law.
The green flag has a white town emblem in the center.
The town emblem is a stylized kanji 五戸 Gonohe.
It represents a solidarity and a development of the town.

The flag of the former village of Kuraishi was maroon with mark. The village
is now, from 2012, part of the town of Gonohe.

The design is based on the hiragana characters for “kuraishi” くらいし; the circle symbolizes peace and cooperation within the village, while the inner design represents development and a bountiful harvest.
