According to Roberto Breschi presantation titled: "The
Small Italian States Which Lasted Beyond 1700" at ICV 19
(York,2001), the Republic of Noli (today in Savona Prov.,
Liguria) used white cross on red flag (opposite to Genoa) since
the 13th cent. and until 1797 when Noli was taken by Napoleon.
Some times they also used a "short" cross (whose
arms didn't reach the flsg's sides) and also same cross on
swallotail flag with two patron saints symbols.
