"GONFALONE. Drappo azzurro riccamente ornato di ricami
d'argento e caricato dello stemma comunale con l'iscrizione
centrata in argento: «Comune di Monticiano» (Decreto del
Presidente della Repubblica in data 31 ottobre 1953). La capra è
un simbolo positivo che la tradizione considera emblema di
onorata fatica e diligenza. Generalmente compare negli scudi che
rappresentano comunità poste in luoghi alpestri e di non facile
accesso. L'assunzione della capra a simbolo denota, pertanto, la
presenza di tradizioni pastorali e attività comunque collegate
alla pastorizia."
