When Charles Reynoldde Chauvancy wrote his book
"Télégraphie Nautique Polyglotte" (Multi-lingual
Nautical Telegraph) in 1855, he gave examples of the use of his
code with different national systems. Each country used a set of
flags to communicate between ships which were differents. One
example quoted is the kingdom of Sardinia. The flags used by
Sardinian navy are shown at at Steenbergen Book
(1862).
