Abetone is in Pistoia province, Tuscany, 50 km northwest of
Pistoia. Information (in Italian) from <www.radicedidue.com>:
"GONFALONE - Drappo tagliato d'azzurro e di
giallo, riccamente ornato di ricami d'argento e caricato dello
stemma civico (Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica in data 6
ottobre 1953). Il grande abete che campeggia nello stemma si
riferisce al nome del paese e rappresenta la natura boscosa del
territorio. Le piramidi, al pari di quelle in pietra costruite in
onore di Pietro Leopoldo I di Toscana e di Francesco III di
Modena, ricordano la realizzazione della strada che univa la
Toscana all'Emilia e avvicinava il porto di Livorno alla pianura
padana."
