"GONFALONE. Drappo partito di verde e di rosso riccamente ornato di ricami d'argento e caricato dello stemma comunale con la iscrizione centrata in argento: «Comune di Scansano» (Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica in data 1 dicembre 1952).
I colori del gonfalone esaltano i simboli nazionali di unità e indipendenza. La croce sulla sinistra dello stemma ricorda l'emblema sabaudo e consente di datarne l'adozione. L'accetta d'argento su fondo rosso denota l'intensa attività boschiva che ha sempre interessato l'economia della zona. In precedenza il gonfalone conteneva l'immagine di san Giovanni Battista, patrono della chiesa maggiore. "
