"GONFALONE. Troncato di giallo e d'azzurro, riccamente ornato di ricami d'argento e caricato dello stemma sopra descritto con la iscrizione centrata in argento: «Comune di Scarlino» (Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica in data 13 luglio 1974).
La stella è immagine ricorrente negli stemmi usati dalla comunità di Scarlino. Nello stemma più antico appare l'immagine di una grande stella d'oro su campo azzurro con otto piccole stelle, anch’esse dorate, sulle punte. Successivamente, lo scudo di Scarlino fu diviso in diciotto losanghe, argento e rosse, con una piccola inquadratura contenente una stella d'oro su fondo azzurro al centro. L'attuale stemma ha ripreso gli antichi simboli, ponendo un'altra stella in capo allo scudo."
