"GONFALONE. Drappo bianco, riccamente ornato di
ricami d'argento e caricato dello stemma comunale con l’iscrizione
centrata in argento: «Comune di Follonica» (Regio decreto ín
data 3 ottobre 1929).
Il mare e la nave riprodotti nello stemma di Follonica ne
esprimono chiaramente la storia. La città deve il suo sviluppo
al mare e al trasporto di minerali ferrosi dall’isola d’Elba
e i simboli racchiusi nello scudo ricordano fedelmente questa
fondamentale attività di tradizione etrusca e romana."
