The gonfalon of the Municipality of Catania is made up of a rectangular cloth banded, in this order, with green, amaranth red and light blue with, in the lower part, three bands in the shape of an irregular quill, the middle one longer, decorated with gold embroidery and, in the center, the civic coat of arms as described in the previous article with the variant of the elephant with silver caparison surmounted by a pedestal on which rests St. Agatha armed, on the right, with the sword placed in barred, and, on the left, with an oval gold shield with the effigy of a silver eagle in lowered flight.
At the top the centered inscription in gold "Città di Catania", the legend "Castigo rebelles" on the right and "Invictos supero" on the left and below the shield, on a fluttering ribbon the motto: "Catania tutrix regum" (decree of the President of the Council of Ministers 11 August 1934, transcribed in the registers of the heraldic consultation on 14 August 1934).
